The Hooker and Junkie on the Bus-A Lesson in Reaction.

Afternoon, Guys…

So, this isn’t about judging, but about how people react to people.

We’ve been riding the bus since its beginning, we’ve seen every type of people from school kids to homeless with their gear on their backs to carpetbaggers to anybody.  People interest us, but what interest us more is the interaction between driver and passengers.  You can learn a lot watching.  For the most part, they’re cool, but then, there’re the times we wonder.

Story time:

First, one time we were on the bus when we stopped to pick up a passenger.  I immediately thought hooker on first impression.  My reasoning was she wore a dress literally made of that party paper you stuff in party bags.  You could faintly see all her business.  She was carrying her stilettos, and when we exchanged hi’s, she had a blackeye on her right side…WAIT, WHAT?!  Talk about deer in headlights or looking at a trainwreck.  I won’t lie, I looked, but I wondered more what she got into, where she came from.  The driver said nothing, I don’t know if it was indifference or the old tried and true don’t get involved.  It was a first and only for us.

Another time we were on the bus, though, we picked up someone, who was obviously high.  Dude was fidgety and kept getting up while the bus was going, standing by the driver to constantly talk to her.  Of course, we thought that was weird, but oh well.  He wasn’t making us uncomfortable, the driver was.  We knew it was a screwed up situation, but she started yelling at him from the get-go.  He’d do what she’d say, but he’d be back up in seconds.  Instead of calling it in like we know she’s trained to do, she kept yelling at him.  I saw this going south, so I Joey we were getting off at the next stop.  I don’t remember where we were going, but I knew we had to get off the bus.

After we got off the bus, we still heard her yelling at the passenger.  We’d seen junkies on the bus, but that was by far the most uncomfortable ride.  Btw, she’s still driving.

Moral of the story:  Some people’re quick to knee-jerk, I admit, I’m guilty of it.  Think before you react, control is NOT always yours.

Be good to each other.
