Another Skeleton Wants to Come Out to Play.

Morning, Guys…

So, today, I’m letting another skeleton out of the closet: pressure sores.

Now, pressure sores plague us that have to sit all of the time.  I’ve fought them all my life.  Mainly, they come from sitting for long periods of time no matter how cushy a cushion may be in a chair.  Also, diet and hygiene may be a factor as it is with almost all facets of life.

I won’t show you pics of the stages, you can Google those.  Suffice it to say, they start with red splotches to gruesome raw meat to the bone.  I’ve had all of the above.  They range from stage 1-4.  To get them to go away, 24/7 bedrest is needed; however, staying in bed can cause pressure sores, so it can be a catch-22.  The person needs to be able to shift or be turned every couple hours or so to relieve pressure.

In my case, the most recent batch had to do with me being up in my chair working full-time and an crappy provider that couldn’t tell the difference between hemorrhoids and a pressure sore, and I asked her when I started seeing blood…Oh yeah, there will be blood.  That oversight threatened our New York trip.  I had to quit work, file for disability, and stay in bed for three months, which is maddening looking at the same four walls day in and day out, in the hopes of salvaging the trip.  I managed to pull it off, but from then on, I was busted down to part-time…oh, and when I called her to tell her we were getting back, she informed me she quit.  Ain’t that a…

Because, they got so bad, they never completely healed, so the scar tissue’s pretty extensive, and I have to wear Allevyn wound care pads that get changed every other day.

It sucks going through it, and I’m thankful to be still be alive to post this, so that you guys out there will know in your lives.

Be good to each other.

  1. That is really sad how uncaring people can be when they KNOW someone is depending on them!
