DVT-The Silent Killer.

Happy Friday, Guys!

So, I woke up in a silly mood until I read a post from a sister crip.  Now, I’ve known about this for a few days, and felt, we as crips need to be informed.  BUT, not having this happen to me personally, I didn’t feel like I knew enough to spit it to you guys yet…then, it happened to my girl, Patricia, this week.

So, I’m gonna give her the floor to tell you about having a bout of DVT.

Take it away, Patricia:

I normally use my platform for pointing out things that need change, or for motivation. I don't speak of my private life, unless it's of a positive form. Today, I'm going to give you an insight into my world, so that maybe I can help someone dealing with the same issue as myself. I was born with Spina Bifida which is a birth defect that left me paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, I was diagnosed with a DVT which is a Deep Vein Thrombosis, a bloodclot that forms in the main artery of your leg. The first time they installed a IVF which is a Intravenous Vena Cava filter to keep clots from breaking into my lungs, heart, and head. It got clotted again, so they put me back on bloodthinners so my blood can flow better. If you sit, stand, or lay down for long periods of time a bloodclot can form from lack of circulation. I'm very blessed to be alive after two episodes, and my hope is that for anyone reading this to take good care of themselves, because this is a serious matter. To my wheelchair users, just because we don't have sensation to all parts of our lower extremities doesn't mean they don't need our attention. Value your body, because it's the only place we have to live. 💕

Be good to each other.
